CURRENT EXHIBITION

Sayreville War Memorial High School & New Rochelle High School

Presented by teachers Katherine Mojzsis (Sayreville, NJ) & Alexandra Rutsch Brock (New Rochelle, NY)

April 1 - April 28, 2017

Free Opening Reception: Friday, April 14, 6pm - 8pm (during Second Friday at the Arts Garage)

Students in Ms. Mojzsis's Advanced Art and Independent Study Jewelry classes at Sayreville War Memorial High School created a variety of works for this exhibition including printmaking, painting, and metalworking. Working in a variety of media, the students created work to develop mastery in concept, compilation, and execution of 2D and 3D design.

Students in Mrs. Brock's Drawing & Painting 2/3 class stretched their own canvases for these self-portrait paintings. They painted themselves depicting a specific narrative. The first layer (underpainting) was done in grisaille (executed entirely in shades of gray) in acrylics. They then painted over in oils, which was their first experience with this medium.

The Youth Art Month Program emphasizes the value of art education for all children, encourages support for quality school art programs, and promotes art material safety. Youth Art Month also provides a forum for recognizing skills developed through visual arts experiences that are not possible in other curriculum subjects.
