England General Hospital, a recovery and rehabilitation center for injured soldiers. The community mobilized its resources for Civilian Defense, calling on local men and women to be air raid wardens and airplane spotters. Women volunteered for the USO and the Red Cross, joined the military and worked as nurses. African American men and women served in the military, worked in the defense industry and volunteered on the home front. This exhibit showcases the wartime narrative of Atlantic City, connecting the stories of the men and women who trained, worked, recovered and volunteered there. The Noyes Arts Garage of Stockton University is exhibiting twenty final winning pieces, carefully selected by a jury. Student winners, along with their family and friends, are invited to the closing reception. Students will take their clay artwork home at the end of the reception. Clay in Mind is a juried exhibition of outstanding three-dimensional ceramic artworks, functional and non-functional, created by high school students throughout New Jersey. This is Clay in Mind's 20th competition. The exhibit was designed to give a venue to high school students' ceramic artworks and to promote professional development in the medium for teachers and students. Annually, each school may enter artworks, either functional or non-functional, whose primary medium is clay. The works must be original in concept and executed solely by the student. The blind jurying is held at Sayreville War Memorial High School. Teachers and their students participate in a variety of clay related activities while awaiting the judge's decision. Rather than representing reality, the artwork exists as a real object in real space, inviting interaction between physical materials and mental associations. By combining traditional media with unconventional “non-art” materials such as tar, cement, wax, steel, and found objects, Crackpot Realism creates new forms that balance spontaneity and resistance, immediacy and labor. Assemblage, collage, and text function not as supplements but as integral elements, with written language operating visually and politically to allow works to be read on multiple levels. This is Clay in Mind's 17th competition, and it was created in dedication to the memory of James Colavita, ceramic sculptor, and former teacher at Mercer County Community College. The exhibit was designed to give a venue to high school students' ceramic artworks and to promote professional development in the medium for teachers and students. Annually, each school may enter artworks, either functional or non-functional, whose primary medium is clay. The works must be original in concept and executed solely by the student. The blind jurying is held at Sayreville War Memorial High School. Teachers and their students participate in a variety of clay related activities while awaiting the judge's decision. The intent is to arrive at formal order, unity, mood, complexity, ambiguity, and in many cases engage the viewer in frame edge-to-frame edge visual activity. In addition: For me, the camera lens depicts perspective too easily, which is why I capture and develop photographs which often frustrate readable perspectival space, through glass and light reflections and refractions and spatial ambiguity, bringing the viewer’s eye stubbornly back to the surface of the image, so the mind is not allowed to linger in readable/navigable space too long. For me, the photographic image is not only a window through which to see the visible world, but also a maker of flat surfaces which stunt or block logical space. The Noyes Arts Garage of Stockton University is exhibiting twenty final winning pieces, carefully selected by a jury. Student winners, along with their family and friends, are invited to the closing reception. Students will take their clay artwork home at the end of the reception. Clay in Mind is a juried exhibition of outstanding three-dimensional ceramic artworks, functional and non-functional, created by high school students throughout New Jersey. This is Clay in Mind's 19th competition. The exhibit was designed to give a venue to high school students' ceramic artworks and to promote professional development in the medium for teachers and students. Annually, each school may enter artworks, either functional or non-functional, whose primary medium is clay. The works must be original in concept and executed solely by the student. The blind jurying is held at Sayreville War Memorial High School. Teachers and their students participate in a variety of clay related activities while awaiting the judge's decision. These new works have been contemplated visually for maybe a week or so. The work reads architecturally from top to bottom and is constructed the same way. The box sections are assembled separately and used to visualize the whole. Each piece is built on the studio floor, starting from the top. Oftentimes, objects, colors, and shapes are swapped out until the complete piece emerges. A graduate of Cornish College of the Arts with a focus on Photography and Printmaking, Turner utilizes various mediums and styles to convey her unique conceptual visions. Her life experiences deeply influence her work, which often combines beauty with challenging themes. Turner's art is both relatable and empowering, employing bright colors and semi-precious materials to engage viewers and open new perspectives. Now based in South Jersey and recently awarded the New Jersey State Council on the Arts Fellowship, Turner has over 20 years of experience with personal commissions, shows and community-inspired, large-scale projects. Her notable collaborations include a mural at the Seattle Art Museum, performance pieces at the African American Museum, Wa Na Wari, and Pier 62/Friends of Waterfront in Seattle, and the "Headspace" and murals at Amazon Headquarters. Turner’s curiosity, empathy and tenacious spirit is the foundation and dedication to quality, diversity, and cultural pride within her work. Her favorite part of printmaking is that during the process she never knows what the end product will look like. There are many materials available for printing, but Stanford prefers to print on fabric because this material is most interesting to her. After the prints have thoroughly dried, Stanford sews the image onto a fabric of her choosing. This fabric provides structural support and a convenient way for her to display her work. Stanford specified that it may take years for her to complete her woodcut projects, as she works on multiple projects simultaneously.
